OUR OHANA

Kokua Mobile Physical Therapy Meet our team Dr. Teddy Zabel

Teddy Zabel, PT, DPT, OCS

Owner of Kokua Physical Therapy

Teddy grew up playing sports, riding snowmobiles, and cutting down trees in a small town just outside of Syracuse, New York.

He went to Ithaca College where he majored in Business Administration then he moved south to pursue his Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of North Carolina. He furthered his education at Fort Bragg where he worked with the 82nd airborne division and the Intrepid Spirit Center – helping soldiers who sustained traumatic brain injuries and concussions.

After finishing his formal education, he moved to Maui where he met his wife (Julia) while they were both paddling in the Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe State Championships. Julia and Teddy called Maui home for 7 years; it is where they were married and where their kids (Theo and Alana) were born. During that time Teddy was fortunate enough to work with Olympic athletes, professional surfers and snowboarders, and many other high performance athletes. During that time he became a board certified orthopedic clinical specialist, created a mobile custom orthotic lab, and started his first business. On Maui, Teddy enjoyed helping and contributing to the community above all else.

In 2025, the Zabel’s made the bold decision to move from Maui to the Mountains in pursuit of a new adventure closer to relatives. Teddy is excited to bring his clinical expertise and the spirit of aloha to their new community. He always takes the time to understand YOUR story and will assist however possible. That’s the spirit of kōkua — genuine kindness and help.

Julia Zabel

Julia Zabel

CHIEF ORGANIZING OFFICER (AKA HBIC)

Momma Z runs the show – she has final say on all scheduling, billing, and bedtime inquiries. Julia works as a radiology technologist while somehow also managing our family and business. Some might say she’s “a little too organized”. But she is the glue that keeps this crazy ‘ohana together.

Theodore J.W. Zabel

Theodore John William

Quality Control Specialist

Theo is living proof that the Kokua Method works. At 2 years old he is in the 99th percentile for height, weight, and intelligence (we’re not biased at all). He’ll often be found in the home office monitoring his dad’s performance. In his free time he loves throwing rocks, climbing trees, and learning anatomy (just ask him where his gastrocnemius is and what it does).

Alana Rose Zabel

Alana Rose Nohealani

Customer Service Specialist

There is a reason why Lana Rose is our customer service specialist – just look at that smile. If you’re having any sort of problems she is guaranteed to turn your frown upside-down. Her name means ‘a gift from the beautiful heavens’ and she certainly lives up to it.
